36. This man has been called the greatest human ever at his pursuit. Who is he?
Answer to Canada Quiz #36
Born in 1863 in present-day Napierville, Quebec, Louis Cyr was a farm-hand, lumberjack, policeman, and most famously a strongman. He performed prodigious feats of strength, including lifting 500 pounds with 3 fingers, and 18 men on a platform — totaling 4,337 pounds — on his back.
He took on all comers in weightlifting matches and remained undefeated during his lifetime. Fitness and bodybuilding expert Ben Weider has called Cyr the strongest man who ever lived.
The biopic Louis Cyr : l’homme le plus fort du monde was the highest grossing film of 2013 in Quebec.
